The Moreno Pizza Investigation

During a study trip to Gothenburg, somebody racked up a bar tab and left it on Tin’s tab. This led to the course responsible, Anja Standal to appoint Tin to crack the case. While the rest of the teaching staff was away with their kids on “Høstferie”, Tin spent week 40 on building up a credible case for the inquisitions (in plural), that he led on 3-4th of October. As Anja is away, there will be no such thing as a good cop, bad cop… all they got is Tin Phan - the world’s greatest detective. The case remains unsolved and any tip leading to an indictment will be greatly appreciated.

The bar tab of interest amounted to 1.463 SEK, consisting of 13 units. Although many came forth, the suspect behind the bottle of Gruber Roschtiz, Gruner Veltliner, the most expensive unit, is still unaccounted for. This bottle of white wine would become the most investigated unit of this case. The evidence material  led to a two-stage investigation, which the inquisition(s) is based on. The timeline of the case is treated as a true crime story, is published below and now publicly available for any tip that would lead to an indictment:

  • 46 guests showed at Pizza Moreno, any of these are suspects of this case. Wine, beers and soft drinks were ordered and paid directly in the bar section, but here's the kicker: there as also an opportunity to pay at the table, hence the bar tab.

Tin was given three shots and was slightly influenced in the night of when the crime took place.

  • The invoice ticked in within 24 hours of the crime, giving the suspects ample time to get away. The invoice revealed 13 units, totalling 1.463 SEK.

Tin was busy sleeping on the bus home.

  • The first part of this investigation, leading up to the first inquisition was rooted in the evidences such as the receipt, searching up the wine bottle on Vivino and reviewing the photographies taken on the night of.

  • Tin announced straight away about initiating an investigation on the students. On this day, he sent a meme of Liam Neeson from the motion picture, Taken (2008).

  • The first inquisition was built upon the evidences in the receipt and identification of the bottle, a calculation on how many glasses a bottle would fill - hence 5 suspects, a study of the photographies that night, and an interrogation.

This took place prior to his Proptech lecture.

  • On the second inquisition, all the six suspects were vindicated, leaving Tin with no choice other than starting all over and build another case from scratch. A second review of the evidence material, revealed that only one name was stamped on the receipts and photo evidence - Anja Standal.

This took place prior to his Diagram lecture.

The entirety of the second inquisition was fabricated by Tin as a way to quickly close up the case. Anja was also vindicated.

  • Tin broke down in desperation and asked politely if anybody in the audience had any tip... Tin had promised Anja that he resolve the case within week 40. There are no more resources at the precinct to pursue the investigation. The case is considered unresolved and ongoing.

Tin can be reached by mail or phone. Please, help a fellow out.

Setting the tone…

Straight away, Tin made an announcement on Canvas, urging the students to come forth and pay the bill. Usually, this would not be any issue, but on this instance, only 3 students came forth, leading to the initation of the investigation.

A few days later, Tin would reply to his own announcement, with just a meme of Liam Neeson from Taken (2008). Nobody responded to this.

The First Inquisition.

The receipt.

Six suspects were pointed out in the first inquisition, during the Proptech lecture. We have to go to the very start of the timeline, being the incoming receipt from Pizza Moreno. The receipt was printed on typical receipt paper(?) and there was nothing special about it, other than it had handwriting on it with a ballpoint pen, most likely one of those generic Bic pens.

“The Bic ballpoint pen, a ubiquitous tool in offices, schools, and homes around the world, was developed by the French company Société Bic SA. It was first introduced in 1950 by Marcel Bich, an entrepreneur who sought to create a reliable and affordable writing instrument.”

Back to the case however, the key evidence that led to the first lead in the case, consisted of three key aspects:

  1. The receipt.

  2. A Vivino search on the bottle of white wine.

  3. Photo evidence on the night of.

Delving into Vivino and searching up the bottle, Gruber Roschtiz, Gruner Veltliner, revealed its “make and color”: greenish bottle with a blue cork. This bottle also cost only 136,79 in the liquor store, meaning the suspects were both fleeced and lack taste in wine. Or to be precise, Tin got fleeced. The make and color of the bottle is interesting in the context of the photo evidence on the night of. A study of the participants during the dinner, reveals at least three tables with bottles of this description, leading to the conclusion that there are at least 5 suspects and 10 witnesses to what was going on.

There was also another lead that peaked Tin’s curiousity in which went nowhere - the two girls face stalking some random person. Back to the bottles with blue corks, cross-referencing these with the corresponding glasses with clear white wine and the person sitting in front of it, lead Tin to at least four confirmed suspects. Another picture from a different angle, yielded another two suspects. The six suspects in the first inquisition are as following:

  1. Thanh Thanh Truong

  2. Vilde Hystad

  3. Millie Thrygg

  4. Sander Hovland

  5. Tuan Anh Tony, caught with his pants down (figuratively speaking) mouth open (literally speaking).

  6. Ylva Angelfoss

Disclaimer! Thanh, Vilde, Millie, Sander, Tuan, and Ylva were all innocent, this evidence was at best speculative and didn’t lead to any fruitful. However, all of these six suspects were downgraded to witnesses, and proved helpful in Tin’s later investigations. Sorry for all of this and thanks for helping Tin out.

The case presentation can be found below:

The Second Inquisition.

One of the bank statements.

All six suspects were interrogated and vindicated. As it turns out, the suspects managed to conjure up multiple bank statements, that “conveniently” proved their innocence. There are also some insinuations that Tin had made some rash accusations… Well, that does not change the fact that Tin is still an outstanding investigator. This forced him to start from scratch and review the evidence once more - revealing one main suspect…

  • Anja Standal, suspect no.7, mother of two, wife of one.

The main instigator, the person in which ordered Tin to take a look at the receipt and also sent the photo evidence were no other than Anja Standal. Her name was the only name stamped all over the receipt, even at one point revealing herself and her motives of shifting the focus over to the students.

When Tin investigated the photos, he was only thinking about the people in front of the camera, but he never stopped to ask himself who was behind the camera. Also, the question is not how well does he know Anja, or who is Anja… but what is Anja!?

DISCLAIMER!…we will admit to, that all of this was fabricated as a last attempt to shake up the audience to admit guilt. Tin has some personal issues with failing in tasks, and gets really upset when he’s not adequate in what he does. This is something what he’s continuously working with. There are no more leads at this point, so please, come forth with either tip, observations or whatever.

…An Eighth Suspect?

An old mugshot. He is currently a legitimate member of society.

Quite damning, is that Tin spent almost the same amount of money on 12 kilos of meat, as was spent on the bar tab. To be specific, this was a private purchase of 12 kg of duck breasts, chicken legs and cheese. One might think, this entire case was completely fabricated by Tin to finance his addiction and to pin the sum on the students.

This would make the inquisition highly personal and with bias - where the stakes are high. To this, Tin would say conjecture, or what prosecutors say in the court of law:

…guessing or supposing, and if all theories of causation are based only on conjecture, then there is no basis for recovery. In simpler terms, if there is no solid proof, then it cannot be used in court.”

Case closed.

In Tin’s defense on why he would purchase such an amount: the kilo price on duck breast is 499 per kilo in Norway, whereas in Sweden, it is 299,-: making the Norwegian breast 66% more expensive. Here are some images of Tin posing with his 12 kg of meat, which was a fleeting, but happy moment, and then some inspo on duck and chicken dishes:
